TOP TIPS FOR MUAY THAI BEGINNERS
First of all, we would like to welcome you to the journey of Muay Thai, it’s an incredible sport, and it will test your physical and mental strength. The beginning stage is the most exciting time, as you will face struggle along the way, but you will equally notice so much improvement. Being a beginner is often very daunting, which is why we have compiled a list of top tips to help you along the way.
Run Forest Run!
Straight up running is the most effective exercise to improve your overall performance. It gives you power, increases your stamina, and is generally just a great way to get fit.
Invest in Muay Thai Gloves
You will usually be able to borrow a pair of gloves at the gym, but they will undoubtedly be very sweaty and rather smelly! If you are serious about Muay Thai, then investing in a decent pair of gloves is highly recommended.
Wrap Your Hands
Rule number 1….ALWAYS wrap your hands! Wrist injuries are all too common in Muay Thai, but having the right wrist support can help to avoid them. If you aren’t punching properly, then you are likely to cause yourself damage. Protection first!
Focus On Form
Don’t run before you walk. Focus on your techniques and moves before you try to increase the speed and impact.
We need fluid to function, and dehydration can have devastating effects, so remember to maintain good fluid intake.
Don’t overdo it because your body will not thank you! Overtraining can lead to severe and ongoing injuries. Recovery is a vital part of any training, especially Muay Thai.
The thing to remember about Muay Thai is that it’s mainly about muscle memory, and the more work you put in, the better the results will be.
